Bainbridge in Bloom Garden Tour
Celebrates 18th Year
July 14-16, 2006 Bainbridge Island, Washington
(Bainbridge Island, WA) – The greatly anticipated
premier of the Northwest garden tours, Bainbridge in
Bloom, celebrates its 18th annual tour and festival
July 14-16, 2006, beginning with a
tour Preview on Friday, July 14, and continuing with
the general tour the weekend of July 15 and 16, 10:00
a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The Bainbridge in Bloom Garden Tour captures Bainbridge
Islanders’ love of gardens large and small and
provides ideas, resources and expertise that will inspire
the novice and re-inspire the expert gardener. In addition
to viewing extraordinary gardens that set trends in
design and use of plant material visitors will have
the opportunity to learn from celebrity experts including
Seattle’s own Ciscoe Morris and renowned author
and garden designer, Lucy Hardiman. The Festival-Hub
site will feature garden demonstrations, unique creations
by talented local artists, plant vendors, refreshments,
and much more.
The 2006 Bainbridge in Bloom will feature:
July 15-16, Main Garden Tour – Seven
extraordinary Bainbridge gardens will be showcased.
Two of the five gardens will feature interactive demonstrations
designed to give participants the tools to enhance cultivated
gardens while preserving the natural world.
July 14, Preview & Garden Party –
This special day provides an opportunity to
enjoy independently the tranquility of the gardens with
a range of extra amenities from which to choose including:
A private tour conducted by garden writer/designer Lucy
Hardiman; an intimate lunch prepared by PBS’s
own Linda Brandt and exclusive tour of one of Bainbridge
Island’s most alluring French-inspired gardens
(this “not to be missed” garden is open
to Benefactor level ticket holders only!); and, a chance
to mingle with celebrity guests and other garden lovers
at a dinner garden party catered by Island Chef Robert
Freitag of Metro Market Catering. (See “Tickets”
section below for Preview & Garden Party ticket
information.)
Sustainable Garden Practices Demonstrations
– In conjunction with the Bainbridge
Island Watershed Council and the Natural Landscapes
Project, these information-packed sessions will address
topics that include gardening with wildlife, tree protection
and maintenance, water-smart gardens and lawns, and
managing invasive plants. Representatives from the Master
Gardener Program of Kitsap County will also be on hand
to provide plant identification.
Luncheon and Refreshments –
Pick up your lunch-to-go at the Festival-Hub site Food
Court, or enjoy the pre-reserved Luncheon in one of
the gardens, catered by Mon Elisa’s. Food vendors
in the gardens also include Cream of the Crop Ice Cream
and Cappuccinos Espresso.
Tickets – General tickets are
$30/adults and $15/children (ages 4-12). Preview &
Garden Party tickets are available at three ticket levels
($350/ Benefactor, $175/Patron, $125/Garden Enthusiast).
“Bike the Bloom” tickets are $20 and include
route map and bicycle parking. Tickets are available

“Weekend Getaway” Special:
In celebration of the “once in a lifetime”
opportunity to enjoy the West Sound’s premiere
outdoor events, Bainbridge In Bloom and the Sequim Lavender
Festival, on the same weekend the two groups have partnered
to offer reduced ticket prices to both events. “Weekend
Getaway” Special tickets for Bainbridge in Bloom
are $25 for adults and $12 for children; $8 for adult
tickets for the Lavender Festival. The “Weekend
Getaway” Special also includes reduced ticket
prices of up to $50 for the Bainbridge in Bloom Preview
and Garden Party on Friday, July 14. To take advantage
of this special offer simply purchase tickets to both

Festival-Hub Site – The 2006
Garden Tour Festival-Hub site located at the Bainbridge
Island High School campus is open to the public and
offers a “blooming” array of art, plants,
merchandise and delicious edibles. Special attractions
include: The Art Fair featuring garden-inspired
pieces by local artists ranging from fine painting and
sculpture to exquisite outdoor furniture; Kids
Art Spot where kids can have fun creating beautiful
flowers and butterflies while growing their own ‘Fastest
Bean in Town’ plant; and, Container Gardening
Demonstrations – Learn from the pros
and get inspired with hot ideas for combining color
and textures.
Also at the Festival-Hub site:
Plant Sale – Leading our plant
vendors is Nils Sundquist of Sundquist Nursery from
Poulsbo. Since 1987, he has specialized in the foliage
value of perennials, ferns and grasses. Three new vendors
will join the Festival this year. Heidi Kaster of Dragonfly
Farms Nursery will present a wonderful assortment of
plants and flowers; Jack Hirsch will bring hostas and
shade plants from Naylor Creek Nursery; and, Mark Hilt
of Bambu-U from Chimacum will offer hardy tropical plants.
Food Vendors – A generous offering
of brunch and lunch choices from J’aime les Crepes
Creperie, Bagels and Beans Coffee house, and Winslow
Way Cafe.
Free Narrated Tour Shuttle –
All garden tour ticket-holders are required to travel
on Kitsap Transit shuttles on Saturday and Sunday. Our
drivers manage traffic, routing, and parking hassles
while attendees enjoy spacious, air-conditioned travel
that includes shuttle hosts sharing island history and
points of interest. Shuttles are offered free throughout
the weekend and will meet designated arriving and departing
Seattle-Bainbridge ferries, along with serving the Festival
Site at Bainbridge High School. Ample parking is available
at Bainbridge High School.

Two Beloved Northwest Garden Events Cross-Pollinate
for a
“Bloomin” Unbeatable “Weekend Getaway”
Special, July 14-16, 2006
The Olympic Peninsula is bursting with spectacular
gardens and budding lavender, all of which are expected
to peak July 14 –16 just in time for Bainbridge
Island’s 18th Annual Bainbridge in Bloom Garden
Tour and the 10th Annual Sequim Lavender Festival.
To celebrate this “once in a lifetime”
opportunity to enjoy both events over the same weekend
and to encourage garden, lavender and outdoor lovers
to make the West Sound and Olympic Peninsula their destinations
Friday through Sunday, July 14 - 16, the Sequim Lavender
Festival and Bainbridge In Bloom have partnered to offer
reduced price tickets to both events.
“Weekend Getaway” Special tickets
for Bainbridge In Bloom are $25 for adults and $12 for
children. Regular ticket prices are $30/adults and $15/children.
Tickets for the Lavender Festival are $8 for adults
and children 12 and under are admitted free. The regular
adult ticket price is $10.

The Sequim Lavender Festival is responsible
for the development of the regions lavender industry
and the designation of Sequim as the Lavender Capital
of North America. This year eight farms throughout the
Sequim-Dungeness valley will open their fields and hearts
to offer visitors a variety of lavender-centered activities,
including demonstrations, agricultural history, workshops,
horticultural programs and the opportunity to spend
time in the fields.
Visitors can pick lavender for bouquets directly from
the fields and learn how the herb is grown, harvested,
and turned into many products. A highlight of the Lavender
Festival is the Street Fair located in downtown Sequim.
This year more than 150 craftspeople, lavender vendors,
and other Olympic Peninsula-based specialties will be
offered at the site. Other Street Fair highlights include
live musical entertainment, delicious local foods and
Olympic Peninsula wine tasting.
Bainbridge In Bloom, the Northwest’s
premiere garden tour, this year showcases a variety
of gardens some of which set trends in design and plant
materials while others demonstrate beautiful gardens
come in all shapes, sizes, and even containers and can
be created by anyone, novices and experts alike. The
garden tour is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday
and Sunday, July 15 & 16, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00
p.m.
Highlights of the seven garden tour include free lectures
by Ciscoe Morris and renowned author and garden designer
Lucy Hardiman; a Festival/Hub site offering an array
of art, plants, merchandise, refreshments and container
gardening demonstrations; in-garden demonstrations of
sustainable garden practices; and, free narrated tour
shuttles.

18th annual Bainbridge in Bloom Garden Tour July 14,
15 and 16
Bainbridge in Bloom, one of the Northwest’s most
esteemed and venerable garden tours, is pleased to announce
