NEW, IMPROVED! GARDEN TOUR SHUTTLE:

Streamlined routing, larger air conditioned vehicles with cushy upholstered seats, festival site, and garden amenities added to the "creature comforts" and leisurely pace of 2005 Garden Tour's Bloom

Citing a tremendous growth in attendance over its 17-year history, the organizers of Bainbridge in Bloom extended their appreciation to Kitsap Transit for its commitment to providing free transportation to ticket holders throughout the event, including to and from the ferry terminal. In 2004, more than 15,000 rides were recorded during Bainbridge in Bloom.

Our island neighbors appreciated the efficiency with which Kitsap Transit moved attendees along the tour route, without impacting island roads in ways that the use of private vehicles would. This helped preserve the ambiance of both the event and the island, while eliminating parking frustrations and preserving air quality. Buses are lift-equipped for accessibility and have bicycle racks to provide alternate transportation for bicyclists, should the need arise.

CREATURE COMFORTS:

Every effort has been made the year 2005 to locate the gardens in close proximity to each other and to route the tour to accommodate both more buses and larger buses on rural island roads. In addition to transporting more people per hour, accommodations on the shuttle service included plush tour bus-style seating, storage for personal items, air conditioning, and shuttle hosts in each vehicle to highlight island history and points of interest, while providing general assistance to riders.

To further increase “creature comforts” during the Bloom, each stop along the garden tour offered a choice of refreshments from a unique food vendor and also portable restroom facilities. Relaxed in the gardens during presentations on sustainable gardening topics, or while enjoying talented performances by island musicians.

In addition to the five gardens, Bainbridge High School served as 2005 Garden Tour’s only parking and transportation hub, along with being a festival site that hosted the art fair, lecture series, book and plant sales, and a generous offering of brunch and lunch choices designed for portability and the option to enjoy later along the garden route. Plan to visit the festival site before starting the garden tour . . . and feel free to return in the afternoon.

All shuttle buses returning to the ferry terminal travel through downtown Winslow, serving designated stops conveniently located near one-of-a-kind shops and galleries and an unprecedented selection of eating establishments.
