Bainbridge in Bloom

2004 BAINBRIDGE IN BLOOM'S
COLLECTOR POSTER

This year's poster features a work by Bainbridge Island artist Michiko Olson, titled “The Garden in My Memory.” The artwork features images of flowers blooming framed within the squares of a shoji screen, and is made using only Japanese rice paper and rice glue. The colored rice paper is hand-dyed, then the images are cut by knife and glued to the back of the black frame. A painstaking process, resulting in a beautifully textured piece of art.

2004 Posters may be purchased online in the ticket center, by clicking here. They were also sold at the Dashiell Garden along with garden books tee shirts and Bloom carry-all bags.

There are a very limited number of the 2003 posters also available through the online ticket center.

Each year the Bainbridge in Bloom poster features the artwork of a different artist. Michiko Olson took classes at Parsons School of Art in New York but due to many relocations and a growing family, she was not able to devote time to her artwork.

Recently however, she told her children that "…if I never try to do something with my art, I will have regrets, so I'm going to focus on my artwork." The piece featured on the 2004 Bainbridge in Bloom poster is one of the first that she created after making her decision. In her own words, she was "surprised, happy and encouraged when my artwork was selected."
