11:00 am Gerard Bentryn
Fragrant Trees and Shrubs Gerard will be speaking about his twenty-five year experiences growing fragrant plants in the Puget Sound Region. The long cool growing season in this region, together with winter rain and summer drought influences not only what will grow here but which plants are most fragrant here. Depending on the weather, Gerard will have examples of plants in bloom to illustrate the talk. He will also cover the entire year of fragrant plants that grow well in our region.

Creating Outdoor Living Space: The Art of Building Pathways and Retaining Walls Most landscape designers consider hardscape to be the backbone of a great landscape. Tom Davis with Mutual Materials, the Northwest's largest masonry and hardscape company, is presenting this lecture on hardscape. Tom will discuss how to artfully design and build garden retaining walls, walkways, raised garden beds and patios to add depth and structure to a garden landscape. The latest in manufactured hardscape products will be showcased.

Big Plants, Little People There is nothing better than adults and children gardening together. Lisa Taylor, Seattle Tilth Children's Garden Director, will teach you how to make your garden space fun for the entire family. Find out what kind of plants, activities and design elements make for big fun.

Using Paint in a Garden Setting This lecture will cover the ways paint and stain can work in a garden setting. Mary Jane Rehm, Color Consultant with Winslow Paint Company, will focus on color harmony, color as a design element, and using color to create a focal point in the garden. Mary Jane will also suggest ideas about what can be painted and how to use concrete stain. She will illustrate her lecture with photographs and examples.

The Best Plants for Northwest Washington "Oooh-la-la!" Ciscoe, beloved Northwest gardening personality who appears on both radio and television, brings along his enthusiasm and knowledge as he shares how to select the best plants for the Northwest and how to ensure they thrive in your garden.

1:00 pm Linda Plato
Topiary Indoors and Out As living garden ornament, topiary can add character, structure, and whimsy to both indoor and outdoor gardens. Linda Plato, a Seattle area horticulturist specializing in European garden design, will discuss and illustrate the many uses of topiary in the Northwest garden, including demonstrations for making and maintaining your own green sculptures. If you're drawn to the elegance of clipped boxwood or the sophistication of plant orbs in your garden, you're sure to enjoy this presentation.
